Mayurbhanj district is in the North-Eastern part of Odisha, and Simlipal National Park is located at the center of Mayurbhanj. Similipal is situated at a distance of 250 km from Kolkata and 320 km from Bhubaneswar.
It is surrounded by brief trees and Sal forests; The National Park has 12 rivers running across it. Define by thick wooden slopes, ridges, luxuriant grassland, and beautiful waterfalls. There are arrays of plants as many as 501 species are housed at the park, in between the 82 species are of Orchids.
The Park is an applicable source for countless medicinal and aromatic plants also.
Simlipal was declared as a tiger reserve in 1973 and a sanctuary in 1979. One of the 18 tiger reserves of India, it covers a total area of 2750 square km.
Simlipal National Park is a safe and haven place for Leopard, Gaur, Elephant, Langur, Barking and Spotted Deer, Sloth Bear Mongoose, Flying Squirrel, Porcupine, Turtle, Monitor Lizard, Python, Sambar, Pangolin, Crocodile and Four-horned Antelope.
More than 230 species of birds like the Grey Hornbill, Indian Pied Hornbill, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Indian Trogon, Red Jungle Fowl, Hill Mynah, Peafowl, Alexandrine Parakeet, and Crested Serpent Eagle can found here. Similipal is also home for a large number of reptiles like snakes and turtles.
Similipal is Spread over an area of 2750 sq. km, the park is at an altitude of 559.31 meters. Simlipal Tiger Reserve is famous for best care of tigers in India.
Other attractions of the Simlipal National Park are Mugger crocodiles at Jashipur apart from Barehipani and Joranda waterfalls.
There are 42 species of major mammals 242 species of birds and 30 species of reptiles recorded so far in the Reserve. Tiger, Panther, Elephant, Gaur, and four-horned antelope, etc. are found in different levels of bounty.
Ratel, Pangolin, Giant squirrel, sambar, and Cheetal are among the other few worth mentioning. Out of the Indian checklist have 7% reptiles, 20% birds, and 11% mammals.
Simlipal Safari is best to recognize with four vehicles, which is organized by the jungle authority, especially for the jeep safari. An open 4WD safari vehicle is allowed and available for the visitors to check the daily game drives.

Best Time to Visit
Similipal is usually open for visitors from the beginning of November till the onset of the monsoons.
- Day visitors can enter between 6 AM & 12 Noon and visitors with reservation between 6 AM & 2 PM.
- Similipal remains open from 1st November to 15th June only.
