The rice is mixed with jaggery, grated coconut, banana, cheese, and various dry fruits and milk. This mixture is called “Makara Chaula”.
This day is also observed as two veshas of Lord Jagannath i.e Nabanka Vesha and Makar Chaurashi Vesha.
