
Jirang monastery is also known as Thupten Mindrolling Monastery situated in the Gajapati district of Odisha. You can say it is the largest Buddhist monastery in Eastern India. This monastery was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in January 2010.
According to history, the first batch of Tibetans arrived in Chandragiri on 1st May of 1963. In 1959 the Chinese invasion asked the 11th Dalai Lama to seek shelter from India and other places for around 85,000 Tibet people. They got a place near Chandragiri, which is around 80 kilometers from Berhampur city of Odisha.
This camp is chosen as one of the major 6 camps made in India. Odisha people call this place “Phuntsokling”, Which means -” The land of plenty and happiness”. The foundation was laid in 2003 and it was completed in 2008 with a cost of 8 crore Indian rupees.
Structure Of Jirang Monastery
The Jirang Monastery is built with the “Atanpuri style architecture of Nalanda”, and is made by architects from Tibet, Bhutan, and Nepal. The monastery is 70 feet (around 21 meters)
Height , and have 5 stories high. The total area of this monastery is built on 10 acres of land. It contains a 23 feet high Buddha statue and a 17 feet long Buddha Padmasambhava.

This is also a school for Tibetan students. The students can stay and read different kinds of courses here. The Jirang Monstery has a huge meditation hall and other small temples, classrooms, hostels, and everything inside the complex.

The special attraction is the Padmasambhava Monastery (Jirang Monastery). Due to its size, it is known as the largest monastery in East India. There are a lot of places near this Monastery. Gandahati Waterfall, Khasada Waterfall, Mankoda Diya Waterfall are one of them. You can get a chance to visit spiritual places along with natural beauty at the same time.

Throughout the year you can plan to visit this place. Though November to March are the good times to visit this place because of the winter season.
