Gupteswar temple is a city shrine which is dedicated to lord shiva. This temple is known as one of the popular pilgrim sites of Koraput. It is located 55 kilometers away from Jaypore, Koraput. Gupteswar temple is situated inside a limestone cave and the Shiva Linga is a natural one which exists from the old ages. 

This Shiva Linga is located inside the cave which was not easily accessible in the old days, that’s why it is known as Gupteswar Temple (Hidden God). The main attraction of this place is the extremely big Shiva Linga, which is increasing day by day.

Pilgrims from all over India come to Gupteswar Temple during the yearly BolBam yatra. Devotees walk to this temple during Bolbam yatra to bathe in the maha kund. You have to hike 200 steps to reach Gupteswar Temple. 

This temple is surrounded by dense forests and flanked by the Kolab river. There are also several other caves near this temple. There is a large stalactite found inside the second cave. Devotees worship that stalactite as God Kamadhenu.

The nearby hill has been named “Ramgiri”. According to mythology, this Shiva Linga was first discovered by Lord Rama, when he was roaming around the Dandakaranya forest. Later called it “Gupteswar”. 

The best time to visit this temple is in the months of October to February. The weather is quite pleasant at this time.
